In Spring 2021 Kelly was in Krabi escaping smoky season in Chiang Mai when she was invited to participate as a volunteer in a Children's Outdoor Education program for a week with a group of 20 children from Israel. The camp was hosted by the homestay where she was staying overlooking beautiful mountains and rock climbing spots. Kelly was missing her own children who were in China at the time so when the host offered her a month of accommodation and all her meals included in exchange for helping out with the summer camp for a week she jumped at the opportunity.

She had been feeling a little lonely in Krabi away from her kids and community in Chiang Mai so the offer came at the perfect time. She had an incredible week with the Summer Camp. Being the only Mom on staff that week she became the go-to person for all the kids that were struggling with big emotions and needed a little extra care and encouragement. Her first week was a such a success that the host asked her to come back the next week for another week with children from Israel but this time the opportunity was paid. Kelly was having a such a good time she agreed.

She had been posting photos of the outdoor camps in her local Chinese Community WeChat group when they started to message her and ask if they could they participate too. Kelly was able to coordinate another week of Outdoor Education in Krabi with the host at the last minute so 25 kids from the Chinese community in Chiang Mai flew down to Krabi for a week for an Outdoor Education camp. This time since Kelly had brought all of the students to the camp the host paid her a commission fee.

When she returned to Chiang Mai the Chinese Community kept her asking to coordinate more Outdoor Education camps for the kids. Starting off with just day camps Kelly was happy to continue organizing them because she enjoyed it so much. Over time it became clear she needed to turn it into a official business so she could organize large groups with all the proper safety and precautions. Fun & Learn Chiang Mai was born out of the sweet insistence of the local community in Chiang Mai and Kelly's passion.

Kelly went on to take training to become a Certified Outdoor Instructor where she studied how to teach the outdoor activities she loved to kids. To meet the requirements of a business in Thailand she rented out office space in a brick and mortar building and felt like having such a big empty building was a waste of space. That prompted the Indoor Education program to be born where that indoor space is now used to teach Coding classes and Writing classes and an ever growing and rotating selection of Indoor Education workshops and classes.

With so many extra hands available to help out Kelly realized she could expand once again and contacted the Temple Community and local schools close to Fun & Learn to coordinate cross-cultural exchange to form what is now the IMPACT Program. In the IMPACT program Fun & Learn brings their outdoor team to the local students and temple community in Chiang Mai to play games, experience cultural exchange, and practice and learn English. The IMPACT Program brings these experiences to the local community in Chiang Mai who otherwise wouldn't be able to access opportunities like this and creates lasting memories for everyone who participates. ​​
